Your Spring Cleaning Checklist

Ah, spring cleaning. Some Lafayette homeowners will say that this is one of their favorite times of the year because it is a good opportunity for them to go through their entire house and organize everything. How often do you walk by a pile of junk in your garage and wonder how long it’s going to take you to tidy it up?

To help you with your spring cleaning and organization efforts this year in Lafayette, IN, we have compiled a spring cleaning checklist so you can stay motivated and on track.

In creating this list, we made sure to focus on the more general areas of the home, but we included a few specific areas as well.

Whole-House Cleaning

If you have to do whole-house cleaning with a long spring cleaning checklist on hand, you want to add all those smaller chores you fail to keep up with every other time of the year.

Wipe down baseboards, windowsills, and walls.
Clean out all the vents around the home.
Launder all of your soft fabrics, including curtains and throws.
Dust the blinds.
Wash the windows from inside and outside.
Clean overhead lights and fans.

Kitchen

The next stop is the kitchen, one of the most used rooms in the house. In here, you want to take special care in cleaning since it is a food prep and eating area. Start by cleaning out the pantry, paying attention to the expiration dates of food items. You should then wipe down all of the kitchen cabinets, deep clean the oven, do some vacuuming, mop behind appliances, and clean the entire refrigerator.

Living Areas

Your living areas also deserve some attention, especially since these are where people gather most of the time. Dust and wipe down any mirrors or decorative items, clean the lampshades, steam the throw pillows and blankets, dust and polish all of your furniture, and vacuum and shampoo the carpets.

Bedroom

Now we move on to your sanctuary. This is a room that should be serene and invoke feelings of relaxation after a long day, so do the following to ensure you have a great place to unwind:

Wash all the bedding.
Flip or rotate the mattress.
Go through your drawers and closet and get rid of or donate anything you no longer to use.
Dust everything throughout the room.
Vacuum and shampoo the carpets and clean the drapes.

Bathroom

The bathroom is another room in one’s home that sees a lot of traffic. For this reason, it needs to be cleaned and sanitized regularly. Start by cleaning and disinfecting the bathtub, wash the mats, dust, wipe down the counters and the toilet, and either clean or replace your shower curtain and liner.

Once you have all these rooms taken care of, you should also put fresh batteries in all of your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, have an updated first aid kit on hand, and donate any items you no longer need.
